The new Medicare Prescription drug coverage began in 2006, affecting every older and disabled American on Medicare.  All on Medicare are now able to participate in a prescription drug plan.  At the same time, the State of Illinois offers the Illinois Cares Rx (formerly Circuit Breaker prescription or Senior Rx) program to eligible Illinois residents.   

Choosing the right Medicare drug plan and filing the appropriate applications may require assistance from trained specialists.   Those needing help to pay premiums, co-pays and deductibles may apply for a low income subsidy.
