MOTHER'S DAY EVENT
A Mother's Day Luncheon will be held at Rock River Center, on Saturday, May 11th. A grilled chicken salad (or chicken nuggets for the kids) and dessert luncheon will be served at 11:30 a.m. with entertainment to follow. This is an opportunity to invite your mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, daughter, niece, or friend out to lunch in honor of Mother's Day.
SPELLING BEE
Can you spell palindrome? Malapropism? How about minuscule? The Association of Illinois Senior Centers, the Illinois Department on Aging, and Rock River Center will host a free Illinois State Senior Spelling Bee competition for area senior citizens on Saturday, May 18, 2013, starting at 9:30 a.m. at 810 S Tenth St, Oregon, IL 61061.
The Illinois State Senior Spelling Bee competition is an exciting statewide program that provides Illinois adults age 50 and older the opportunity to showcase a lifetime of knowledge and to celebrate years of experience through their spelling abilities. Local spelling bees are being held throughout Illinois in 2013. Local winners and runners up will advance to regional semi-finals. The State Finals will be held at the Illinois Building at the 2013 Illinois State Fair on Senior Day, Monday, August 12, 2013.

MAGEE RETURNS FOR SING-A-LONG
Clare Magee returns to the Rock River Center, Monday, June 10, 2013 to lead a Sing-A-Long of oldies, folk songs and just for fun songs as he plays banjo and guitar in his “upbeat” style. Clare is a retired educator with ties to Outdoor Teacher Education and Taft Campus. He is a member of the “String-a-Longs” group from Newmarket, Ontario, Canada. Each year he makes an annual trip to Oregon to visit with friends and colleagues. He loves sharing the joy of social music and involving all ages in group singing for fun and uplifting the spirits. The session begins at 10:00 a.m. at Rock River Center, 810 S Tenth Street, Oregon and is open to all. Please call 815-732-3252 by June 7th to reserve your seat. There is no cost for this program, however, donations are always welcomed and appreciated.
The Second WInd Entertainers, a senior theatre group, will present Once Upon a Curse on Thursday June 13 at 11:00am. As Nana tucks her granddaughters into bed one night, she agrees to read them a story. It involves King Morton and Queen Wareen, their perfect daughters Amelode and Peony, and their less-than-perfect son Reevis in a time of long ago and in a kingdom far away. The cast includes Judy Groharing, Max Baumgardner, Joanne Reisner, Margaret Wilson, Rita Mueller, Joe Simeone, Donna Wright, Nancy Skarda, Connie Stauffer, Sherry Piros and Bob Piros. Please join us for this fairy tale for grown-ups!
A FATHER'S DAY EVENT
Plan to bring your father, grandfather, uncle, brother, son, nephew or friend to the Center's "Father's Day Event" scheduled for June 15th also at 11:30 a.m. This event will feature a Bison Presentation by Cliff Knapp. Lunch will be hamburgers cooked on the grill with "Bison Bites" to sample. Reservations are required and can be made be calling 815-732-3252 by June 12th.
